West End Road Bridge repair
About this Project
First built in the early 1900’s the original concrete sections contained shell aggregate from local beaches which had over time become severely compromised. Beam spalling and large cracks were apparent from the initial ground-level inspection.
Following onsite inspections with Sika, Downer and Auckland Transport, a full structural strengthening programme was signed off, and work commenced in March 2015.
Working from a scaffold set up under the main structure, while contending with high tide movements, Topcoat closely examined the bridge structure and used a number of repair systems to rectify spalling columns, cracks in beams and surface pitting, and used ferrous anodes to keep the steel inert. Utilising Sika concrete repair methodology this project was completed in May 2015.
