Topcoat was hired by Southbase Construction to provide a tailored solution and created controlled working conditions.

This project faced a significant challenge: applying intumescent coatings to a large volume of structural steel during Dunedin’s cold, damp winter conditions—a combination that threatened to delay progress and disrupt the wider construction schedule.

• Large-scale heaters and dehumidifiers maintained optimal temperature and humidity, allowing coatings to be applied year-round.
• The team also introduced the latest Wiwa Hekules 270 heated spray units, ensuring fast, precise application.

This proactive approach kept the programme on track and delivered a high-quality, durable fire-protective finish despite challenging site conditions.
